Trabzonspor makes record bid for Paul Onuachu

Trabzonspor have submitted a significant new offer for Southampton forward Paul Onuachu, underlining their strong desire to secure the Nigerian striker on a permanent basis.

According to reports, Trabzonspor are eager to bring back Onuachu after his impressive loan spell with the Turkish club last season.

Record-Breaking Offer

Turkish publication Haber Anlik reports that Trabzonspor has bid €7.5 million for Onuachu. This bid is the highest ever made by Trabzonspor, surpassing their previous record of €6.90 million for Ghana’s Majeed Waris in 2014 and €6.20 million for Turkey’s Gökhan Ünal in 2008.

If successful, this transfer would make Onuachu the most expensive signing in Trabzonspor’s history, highlighting the club’s confidence in the Nigerian striker, who is also keen to return to Trabzonspor permanently.

Southampton’s Demands

Despite Trabzonspor’s substantial offer, Southampton is reportedly holding out for €10 million. The Premier League club’s stance means that Trabzonspor is currently awaiting a response regarding their bid.

Initially, Trabzonspor considered a loan deal with an option to buy next summer, but Southampton prefers a permanent transfer.

Backup Plan

Should negotiations with Southampton falter, Trabzonspor has a backup option in Burnley forward Wout Weghorst, who has been linked with a move away from Turf Moor this summer.

Trabzonspor have been actively exploring this alternative as they seek to strengthen their attacking options.

Onuachu’s Performance and Contract

Onuachu had a standout season with Trabzonspor, scoring 17 goals in 25 appearances. The striker is contracted to Southampton until June 2026, making the transfer negotiations a complex but potentially rewarding pursuit for Trabzonspor.
