Troost-Ekong bids emotional goodbye to PAOK FC as he joins Al Khaleej in Saudi Arabia

William Troost-Ekong, the Super Eagles’ stand-in captain and standout player at the Africa Cup of Nations, has penned an emotional farewell to Greek club PAOK FC.

After a memorable season in Thessaloniki, the 30-year-old defender is set to embark on a new chapter in his career by joining Al Khaleej in the Saudi Pro League.

Troost-Ekong took to his X (formerly Twitter) handle to express his gratitude and affection for the club, where he made a significant impact both on and off the field.

“Dear PAOK, after an amazing year and season in Thessaloniki, I want to thank everyone for the opportunity to share and be part of those moments with you,” he wrote.

He continued by acknowledging the support from various quarters of the club. “I want to thank the President, club staff, medical team, General Lucescu, assistants, and especially my teammates who have become family. Your belief and hard work led to an unforgettable championship and special European nights,” he added.

Troost-Ekong also reserved special praise for the fans, noting, “Toumba is something special, and now I understand what MONO PAOK means. Thank you for your support during tough times.”

Reflecting on his season, Troost-Ekong featured in 24 games for PAOK across all competitions, scoring once and providing an assist.

His contributions were pivotal in the club’s successful campaign, which he will carry with him as he heads to Saudi Arabia.

As he departs, Troost-Ekong leaves a message of goodwill for PAOK: “I wish everyone another successful season, and I will continue to follow PAOK.”

The Nigerian defender’s move to Al Khaleej marks the beginning of a new adventure, but his time at PAOK will remain a cherished chapter in his career.
