Tunisia Appoint Hervé Renard After Sacking Lamouchi Following Heavy Defeat

Tunisia have appointed French coach Hervé Renard as their new head coach after sacking Sabri Lamouchi following a heavy 5-1 defeat to Sweden in their opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Tunisian Football Federation confirmed the decision on Monday during a national television broadcast, announcing that Lamouchi had been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

Federation president Moez Nassari also confirmed that Renard has signed a contract to lead the team until the end of the 2026 World Cup.

Renard, an experienced international coach, is well known for guiding Saudi Arabia to a shock 2-1 win over Argentina at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. He also recently managed the France women’s national team.

Lamouchi, a former France international, was appointed in January but lasted only a short time in charge after Tunisia’s poor start to the tournament.

The 5-1 defeat to Sweden has left Tunisia in a difficult position in Group F, with their chances of reaching the knockout stage now under serious threat.

Renard will now quickly turn his attention to Tunisia’s next group game against Japan on Saturday, where the team will be aiming for a positive result to keep their World Cup hopes alive.
