U-20 AFCON: Perfect Senegal defeats Benin Republic to secure FIFA U-20 World Cup ticket
Senegal have secured a 2023 FIFA U-20 World Cup ticket with a 1-0 win over Benin Republic in one of four quater-final games of the CAF U-20 AFCON in Egypt.
Senegal have been excellent at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations, winning all three group stage matches to finish top of Group A.
In the quater-final, the Junior Terenga Lions came up against a Benin Republic team that scrapped their way to the last-8 as one of two best 3rd-placed teams from the group stage.
Though not convincing like their wins over Egypt (0-3) and Madagascar, Senegal did just enough to secure a 1-0 win, S. Diallo scoring the match-winner at the Cairo International Stadium to reach the last-4 and secure one of Africa’s four slots to the FIFA U-20 World later in the year.
With a World cup spot in the bag, Senegal will switch focus to winning the tournament in Egypt to further boost their countries dominance, following 2021 AFCON and CHAN tournament title wins.
