U-20 World Cup: Hosts Argentina employ dirty tactics ahead of Flying Eagles clash

Argentina have resorted to dirty tricks and negative games to help them defeat the Flying Eagles at the ongoing FIFA U-20 World Cup in the South American country ahead of their Round of 16 meeting.

Having finished third in Group D on goal difference, the Flying Eagles were drawn against hosts Argentina, who breezed through the group stage with nine points from nine, in the Round of 16.

The Flying Eagles had the first two group stage games in Mendoza before travelling to La Plata for their final game against Brazil. After their qualification, they were scheduled to play in San Juan, the third of four host cities for the competition.

The Nigerian contingent was due to leave the Buenos Aires airport for San Juan at 9am on Monday morning, but saw their flight delayed for 15 hours without an explanation, leaving the team stranded at the airport. They eventually left the Argentine capital by 6pm, embarking on a two-hour flight, and landed in San Juan at 8pm.

The team’s officials have revealed that they received no explanation for the delay before or after they arrived in San Juan. They are due to face the formidable Argentina side at 10pm on Wednesday in a crunch Round of 16 clash as both nations renew hostilities.
