U17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets Defeats South Korea In Friendly

The Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Wednesday defeated South Korea 4-2 in a friendly at the Saropoca Sports Complex ahead of the FIFA U17 World Cup in Brazil this October.

Having lost their first friendly 2-1 to Sao Paulo FC since arriving the Brazilian city, Manu Garba made couple of changes to his team as they filed out against South Korea.

The changes paid dividend when Divine Nwachukwu headed Nigeria into lead in the as early as the sixth minute.

The Eaglets were however pegged back four minutes after when South Korea scored from the penalty spot as conveted by Oh Jaehyeok.

Choi Minseo put Korea ahead for the first time in the match but the Asians joy was short live when Olakunle Olusegun equalised for Nigeria a minute later as both team went into the break all square.

Just as it was looking likely that the match will end in a draw, the Eaglets scored two goals in the final six minutes as Olakunle Olusegun completed his brace and Charles Etim’s curly shot outside the box sailed into the net to give Nigeria a 4-2 victory.

Nigeria will begin her quest for a record sixth title at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup with a game against Hungary on October 26.
