U17 World Cup: Golden Eaglets Lose First Friendly In Brazil

Ahead of the commencement of the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup, the Golden Eaglets of Nigeria on Monday night lost their first pre world cup friendly to Sau Paulo FC 2-1.

Having settled down in the city of Sao Paulo and gradually adapting to the high altitude weather, the Nigerian side filed out against Sao Paulo FC’s U17 team at the Saropoca Sports Complex with Danilo Silva opening the scoring for the host in the 18th minute.

The Eaglets created better chances and found their equaliser from the spot in the 70th minute through Olakunle Olusegun while Enrique Santos confirmed supremacy for Sao Paulo with a sublime finish in the 85th minute.

Manu Garba led side will begin her quest for honours at the 2019 FIFA U17 World Cup with a game against Hungary on October 26 in Goiania.

Nigeria will then clash with Ecuador (at the same venue on 29th October) and Australia (in Brasilia on 1st November) in Group B.
