“Deciding on the final squad was difficult because so many of players actually gave a good account of themselves both in training and matches, but we cannot take every one to the tournament,” the former Enyimba tactician said.
As many as nine players who did not feature at the recent U20 AFCON in Niger, where Nigeria placed fourth.
“We were meticulous with the selection as we just have to go with the best players and also consider some players ahead of others because they can function effectively in two, three positions, which is a big advantage going into a major tournament like this.” Paul concluded.
Nigeria’s last appearance at the FIFA U20 World Cup was in New Zealand four years ago, where Coach Manu Garba’s wards were eliminated in the Round of 16 by Germany in Christchurch.
