UEFA Champions League Qualifiers: Ogu on target, Egho & Nwakaeme play part

Three Nigerians were in action for their clubs in the UEFA Champions League qualification round of games played on Tuesday.

All three of them were on for the entire duratuin of the games, while one progressed to the next round the other two were knocked out of the competition.

Super Eagles midfielder, John Ogu and striker, Anthony Nwakaeme started and played thorough out as the Isreali champions played a 2-2 draw at the Turner Stadium Be’er Sheva on Tuesday.

After going down 5-0 to Croatian side, Dinamo Zagreb, John Ogu, Anthony Nwakaeme and co knew they must do the unthinkable to overcome the deficit.

John Ogu scored his sides first goal innthe 14th minutes, Peter Stojanovic owngoal in the 34th minutes increased their tally to two.

But second half goals from Mario Budimir and Izet Hajrovic meant there was no way for the Isreali champions as they crashed out of the 2018-19 champions league (7-2) on aggregate.

Anthony Nwakaeme was also in action alongside John Ogu for Hapoel Beer Sheva but the Super Eagles striker failed to find he back of the net.

Austrian born Nigerian striker Marvin Egho started for the Slovakia champions but failed to find the back of the net as Astiz Inaki 63rd minutes strike settle the tie.

Despite losing at home on Tuesday, the Egho and co were able to make it to the next round thanks to their 2-0 away win in the first leg.

The advance to the next round with an aggregate of 2-1 win.
