US Open turns sour as Fan snatches Majchrzak’s hat from child

The 2025 US Open has produced its share of drama on court, but one of the biggest stories came from the stands. After his stunning victory over ninth seed Karen Khachanov, Polish player Kamil Majchrzak tried to make a young fan’s day by tossing his signed hat into the crowd.

What should have been a heartwarming gesture quickly turned sour. The hat sailed toward a young boy named Brock, but a nearby spectator grabbed it away and left the child empty-handed. Cameras caught the shocking moment, and it instantly went viral on social media, sparking outrage among fans worldwide.

Many tennis supporters condemned the act as unfair and unsportsmanlike. Clips spread quickly, showing the disappointment of the young fan who had clearly been the intended recipient.

Majchrzak himself stepped in after the incident. He shared an appeal online to help identify the boy. Within hours, the tennis community located Brock. The Polish star met him the next day, gifting a new signed hat and other memorabilia to make up for the lost moment.

What began as an ugly viral controversy turned into one of the more touching stories of the tournament. It highlighted both the negative side of crowd behavior and the power of players to create lasting connections with their fans.
