Davis Love III understands the United States have failed to win the Ryder Cup since 2008, but he feels his team have something special.
Led by Dustin Johnson and Jordan Spieth, USA take on Europe at Hazeltine starting Friday.
“We don’t have to do anything superhuman, we’re a great golf team,” Love said via Golf Channel.
“This is the best golf team, maybe, ever assembled.”
But his team is not completely assembled yet, with his final captain’s pick still to be announced.
Either way, Love does not think it matters who is on the team so much as the philosophy they play with.
He said past teams have played “not to lose”, but he wants to see more confidence this time around.
“You need to stand up there, smash it down the middle and take off walking,” Love said.
“And let the other team know we are going to dominate you.”
Europe have won the past three editions of the Ryder Cup and will be led by Rory McIlroy, Henrik Stenson and Justin Rose this year.
