Uzoho’s Aspire Academy teammate, Lawrence affirms goalkeepers Old Trafford dream

Lawrence Effiong who was Francis Uzoho’s teammate at Aspire Academy, Doha Qatar from 2012-2016 has affirmed the goalkepeers Old Trafford dream after yesterday’s man of the match performance.

Omonia Nicosia fell to a 1-0 defeat to Manchester United at Old Trafford, Nigerian goalkepeer Uzoho made 11 saves to deny the Reds’ until Scot Mactominay struck the winner in the 93rd minute.

At the Theatre of dreams on Thursday night, Uzoho a fan of the Red Devil’s fulfilled his dream of playing at the prestigious arena.

“It’s a dream come true for me. I have dreamed to play here for a long, long time,” Uzoho said at the Post match interview after the UEFA Europa league game.

” When I saw the draw and I figured I would be playing at Old Trafford, I prayed to God that I got an opportunity to play.”

Lawrence Effiong who was Uzoho’s teammate at the Aspire Academy, Doha Qatar from 2012-2016 has confirmed those claims in an exclusive chat with SportsRation.

” I thank God for his dream has come to reality , ” Lawrence Effiong said of the goalkeepers dream of playing at Old Trafford.

” Because I remember vividly when we were at Aspire Academy Qatar watching a Manchester United game . He (Uzoho) said to me, ‘Law one day, I will play at the Theatre of dreams’, ” the Rovers FC of Calabar Midfielder recalled.

That was in 2014, two years after Uzoho, Lawrence and two others were picked by Aspire Academy scouts in Nigeria and moved to Qatar.

While at Aspire Academy, Uzoho represented Nigeria at the 2013 U-17 FIFA World Cup where the Golden Eaglets conquered the world.

From Aspire Academy, the shot-stopper, joined Deportivo La Coruna in 2017. Now with Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia, Uzoho has gone on to represent the Super Eagles.

On Thursday October 14, Francis Uzoho was handed a rare start by Omonia Nicosia manager Neil Lennon in the absence of Brazil’s Fabiano.

11 saves to deny the Red Devil’s on a dream fulfilling night, Uzoho was every meaning of the word excellent and Rovers FC enterprising midfielder Lawrence Effiong is happy for his former teammate.

” Now you have fulfilled your dreams ..more grace bro I am happy for you man. You were outstanding yesterday night bravo , ” Effiong concluded in a message for the Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper.
