Victor Boniface catches the eye with five goals in two games for Bodo Glimt
The name Victor Boniface can hardly be described as an household name in Nigeria, let alone outside the country. In the 2021-22 UEFA Europa Conference League, Norwegian side Bodo Glimt came up against eventual champions AS Roma in the quarterfinals, losing 5-2 on aggregate. There was a Nigerian in the Bodo Glimt side, but he was not really noticed by many fans.
Boniface is a 21-year-old striker who plies his trade for Norwegian side Bodo Glimt and has caught the eye in recent weeks with his performances for the club.
During the midweek, the first round of the UEFA Champions League Qualifiers commenced with Bodo Glimt drawn against Klaksvikar Itrottarfelag of Faroe Island in their match. The Norwegian side won 3-0 at home, with their Nigerian striker contributing a hat-trick. Boniface opened the scoring after 11 minutes before doubling his side’s advantage on 31 minutes. The 21-year-old rounded off the scoring from the penalty spot in the 56th minute to give his side a healthy advantage.
Boniface showed that his performance in the Champions League Qualifying match was not a fluke by notching a brace in his side’s 4-1 win over Sarpsborg 08 in their league clash. With his side 2-1 up, Boniface was introduced off the bench after 62 minutes. The youngster needed only one minute to add his name to the scoresheet before he scored his side’s fourth from the spot in the 91st minute.
On current form, Victor Boniface has started the season in very good form. If he can keep up this form, he may catch the eye of Super Eagles manager Jose Peseiro who has made it clear that he requires only the best to play in his team. Boniface has time on his side to impress the national team handlers and he must do that.
