Victor Boniface returns to action: Xabi Alonso happy

Nigerian striker Victor Boniface made his return from a three-month-long injury as Bayer Leverkusen spanked Fortuna Dusseldorf 4-0 to reach the German Cup final.

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso was a happy man during the post match interview after watching his side showcase their dominance with a commanding 4-0 win at BayArena plus the return to action of Nigerian striker Victor Boniface.

The triumph not only secured their spot in the German Cup final for the first time in four years.

Bayer Leverkusen’s relentless performance saw Jeremie Frimpong, Amine Adli, and Florian Wirtz netting goals in the first half, while Wirtz sealed the victory with another goal in the second half. The convincing win sets the stage for Bayer Leverkusen to face Kaiserslautern at the Olympia Stadion in Berlin on May 25.

The return of Victor Boniface after a three-month absence due to injury added to the celebrations for Bayer Leverkusen supporters.

Coach Xabi Alonso expressed his delight at having the star striker back in action, highlighting Boniface’s dedication to regaining full fitness and his importance for the team as the season progresses.

“It was special for him (to return) after three months out. He worked hard to get back on the pitch. He wanted to enjoy it with the players. We needed him back,” Alonso stated after the game.

Despite missing a significant portion of the season, Boniface’s remarkable contribution of 16 goals and seven assists in 24 appearances remains unmatched among the club’s strikers. However, with his return, he faces the challenge of earning his place back in the starting lineup through hard work and determination.
