Victor Osimhen Donates N10 Million to NPFL Champions Remo Stars

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has made a heartfelt gesture to Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars by donating N10 million to celebrate their historic league title win.

Osimhen, who is currently enjoying a successful season on loan at Turkish club Galatasaray, shared the money equally between the players and technical crew.

Remo Stars secured their first-ever NPFL title on Sunday with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Niger Tornadoes. The winning goal came in the 84th minute from substitute Olamilekan Adedayo, sealing a memorable moment for the Ikenne-based club.

Osimhen, who has a strong relationship with Remo Stars’ head coach Daniel Ogunmodede — also an assistant coach with the Super Eagles — personally called the team on Tuesday to congratulate them. He praised their “tenacity” and said he was “deeply impressed” by their determination throughout the season.

Remo Stars head coach, Daniel Ogunmodede, has issued a stern warning to his Sporting Lagos counterpart, Paul Offor, as their teams prepare to clash on Sunday.

Founded in 2004 as FC Dender and rebranded in 2010, Remo Stars have risen from grassroots level to national recognition. They clinched the league with three games remaining, collecting 68 points — 10 more than second-placed Rivers United.

This achievement also makes them the first privately-owned club to win the NPFL since Julius Berger in 2000, and the first team from southwestern Nigeria to lift the title in 25 years.

The victory came on the 59th birthday of club owner Kunle Soname, who also owns Portuguese side C.D. Feirense and is the founder of Bet9ja and ValueJet airline.

Remo Stars’ journey has been one of patience and progress. After being relegated in 2018, they returned to the top flight in 2021 and have now established themselves as serious contenders. With 21 wins in 35 games, they are close to equalling Rivers United’s record of 77 points from the 2021–22 season.

Their title win also secures a place in next season’s CAF Champions League — a competition no Nigerian club has won since Enyimba in 2004.

Meanwhile, Osimhen is chasing his own glory in Turkey, aiming to win the league, Turkish Cup, top scorer award, and Player of the Season with Galatasaray — a remarkable year for one of Nigeria’s finest footballers.
