David de Gea helped Spain to hold Germany to a 1-1 draw in the first game of their UEFA Nations League on Thursday.
The Manchester United goalie who has shared the Spanish National team goalkeeping duties with Kepa Arribazalaga was selected ahead of Chelsea’s goalie and duly delivered.
David de Gea kept his side in the game for the most part of the game until a Jose Gaya’s late equaliser. In fact, he made seven solid saves to prevent the Germans from winning the game.
After the game, Spain’s national team head coach, Luis Enrique praised his start player and asked if his heroics would be mentioned in the papers on Friday.
“When he [De Gea] makes a mistake everyone talks.
“When playing a game like this [vs Germany], we should say hello to him.
“It would be good if tomorrow he was on the cover of an important newspaper, or they published ‘what a goalie we have’.”
