Vincent Enyeama bags honarary doctorate degree from Uniuyo
Former Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama will receive an honorary doctorate award from the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State this weekend.
The former Lille OSC goalkeeper willl bag the honour at the University of Uyo combined 26th, 27th, and 28th convocation ceremonies on November 11.
Alongside Vincent Enyeama, wife of Nigeria’s former defence minister, Senator Daisy Theophilus Danjuma, and the former vice chairman of ExxonMobil, Mr Udom Inoyo will also receive the honarary doctorate degrees.
Enyeama has not played active football since 2018 and has since spent time away from football with his chain of businesses.
Enyeama enjoyed an exceptional active career that lasted nearly two decades, during which time he represented Ibom Stars FC , Enyimba FC , Iwuanyanwu Nationale, Bnei Yehuda, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Maccabi Tel Aviv and Lille OSC.
On the International scene, from 2002 until his retirement in 2015, Enyeama was first-choice goalkeeper of the Super Eagles of Nigeria winning the 2013 Africa Cup of Nations in South Africa and multiple bronze medals.
His 101-caps, Enyeama became Nigeria’s most-capped player until November 2021, when current Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa surpassed his record.
Rated as one of Africa’s greatest goalkeepers, Enyeama won the Marc-Vivien Foé prize in the 2013-2014 French Ligue One season, goalkeeper of the Year at the Nigeria Pitch Awards in 2013 and 2014 plus several other individual accolades.
significantly, the International Federation of Football History & Statistics (IFFHS) honored Enyeama as the Greatest African Goalkeeper of All Time in March 2023 and now the University of Uyo from where Enyeama bagged his Bachelors degree will this weekend add to his awards list.
