Warriors beat Rockets to break NBA record, Jazz win a thriller

The Golden State Warriors broke the record for best 51-game start in NBA history thanks to a 123-110 win over the Houston Rockets on Tuesday.

The Warriors are 47-4 after 51 games so far this season and have to see out the rest of the campaign 26-5 to break the season-best record of 72-10 set by the Chicago Bulls in 1995-96.

Another three straight wins at the Oracle Centre will also see the Warriors break the Bulls’ record of 44 consecutive home victories.

Stephen Curry had 35 points, nine assists and six rebounds in their 13-point win over the Rockets, while Andrew Bogut put in an impressive showing with 13 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high six blocked shots.

James Harden top-scored for the Rockets with 37 points.

The Utah Jazz extended their winning streak to a season-best seven games after outlasting the Dallas Mavericks 121-119 in overtime.

And the victory came in dramatic fashion courtesy of Gordon Hayward, who made a buzzer-beating jump shot, after team-mate Rodney Hood nailed a three-pointer with 1.5 seconds remaining to force OT in Dallas.

Hood led the Jazz with 29 points, while Hayward added 20 of his own.

The Mavericks, who contested their second-consecutive OT game, were led by Chandler Parsons and his 24 points.

There was more drama in Milwaukee as the Bucks trumped the Boston Celtics 112-111.

With the score level at 111-apiece and time almost up, overtime beckoned, until Khris Middleton nailed one of two free throws with 0.6 seconds left.

The Celtics had just tied proceedings courtesy of Kelly Olynyk’s two successful shots from the line with one second remaining.

Life without Derek Fisher got off to a losing start for the embattled New York Knicks, who were beaten 111-108 by the Washington Wizards.

Fisher was sacked as coach on Monday but it did not yield a winning return 24 hours later, with Kurt Rambis unable to prevent a sixth successive loss.

The San Antonio Spurs, meanwhile, powered past the Miami Heat 119-101.
