Watch as Benzema scores first ever free kick goal for RMadrid in win at Espanyol

Karim Benzema has scored is first ever freekick goal for Real Madrid to help the La Liga champions secure a 3-1 win at Espanyol.

Real Madrid had to fight until the end in a tough game before claiming the 3-1 win against 10-man Espanyol at the RCDE Stadium.

Vinicius Junior scored the first goal for Real Madrid but the home team pegged the European champions back through Joselu.

At the end of the first 45 minutes the score was level at 1-1.

Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid the lead in the second half after the champions had to suffer for a period.

With the game winding down, Dani Ceballos one of the four changes made by Carlo Ancelotti was fouled just outside the box by Espanyol goalie, Benjamin Lecomte.

After VAR consultation a free kick was awarded to Real Madrid and a red card to Espanyol goalie, Benjamin Lecomte.

With Espanyol already completed their substutions, defender Leandro Cabrera took the gloves to complete the game.

His first assignment was to keep Karim Benzema freekick but he couldn’t stop the bender from going in.

The goal was enough to earn Real Madrid a 3-1 win at Espanyol where they lost last season.

Despite scoring 327 goals for Real Madrid, the freekick is Karim Benzema first ever.
