Watch as Rose recreates iconic shot at Royal Birkdale

Justin Rose was a wide-eyed, 17-year-old amateur who captured the public’s imagination during the 1998 Open Championship at Royal Birkdale. Now, nearly two decades later, he will be among the favourites at the same venue.

Rose finished tied fourth in 1998 to claim the Silver Salver as the tournament’s leading amateur, having memorably chipped in at 18 on Sunday.

A U.S. Open winner and Olympic champion, Rose lost in a play-off to Sergio Garcia at the Masters this year and enters this month’s Open Championship seeking his second major crown.

Back where it really all began, the 36-year-old decided to recreate his famous shot during a practice round on Merseyside.

Mark O’Meara won the Open that year, but Rose’s jovial personality and great game stole the show. It remains his best finish at the event.
