” We will not underrate Burkina Faso ” – Golden Eaglets striker Abubakar Abdullahi
Golden Eaglets striker Abubakar Abdullahi has said Nigeria will not underrate Burkina Faso when the meet in the quater-final of the 2023 U-17 AFCON.
Nigeria and Burkina Faso will faceoff on Thursday in a rematch of the 2022 U-17 WAFU Cup final match.
In that game, Abubakar Abdullahi scored a brace to help Nigeria to a 2-1 win. Abdulramane Ouedraogo scored the only goal for Burkina Faso in the game.
Both goal-scorers in the WAFU B Championship final match 11-months ago are expected in action at the Nelson Mandela Stadium in Algiers by 8pm on Thursday.
For Nigeria striker Abdullahi, his goal in the final group game vs South Africa has brought relief after firing blank in the opening games. Against Burkinabe, the forward is confident the team will come out strong.
He said “I feel much relieved after I scored against South Africa. I scored 3 goals in WAFU last year.
“We will not underrate Burkina Faso but play our game with a  strong mentality to win as our coaches have taught us.”
A place in the semi-final plus ticket to the 2023 FIFA U-17 World Cup will be on offer in the quater-final match.
