Wembanyama leads Spurs past Thunder into NBA cup final
Victor Wembanyama played a key role in the Spurs vs Thunder game. The San Antonio Spurs defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder to book a place in the NBA Cup Championship game.
Returning from a month-long calf injury, Wembanyama came off the bench and finished with 22 points, nine rebounds, and two blocks in 21 minutes, helping the Spurs snap OKC’s 16-game winning streak.
San Antonio trailed by 11 points at halftime but responded strongly in the third quarter with a 10–0 run that shifted the momentum. Devin Vassell added 23 points, while Stephon Castle and De’Aaron Fox chipped in with 22 points each.
Despite Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s 29 points for the Thunder, the Spurs stayed composed late in the game. Wembanyama sealed the win at the free-throw line and spoke after the game about the challenge of the matchup, saying:
“Winning against a team like this… It’s not an easy thing.”
The win sends the Spurs through to face Jalen Brunson and the New York Knicks in the NBA Cup Championship, marking their first chance at a title since 2014.
