Wenger calls out Arsenal players for “stupid mistakes” in 1-0 defeat at Stoke

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has criticized his players for making “stupid mistakes”, following their 1-0 defeat to Stoke City on Saturday.

The Gunners dominated most of the match, but were unable to find the back of the net, before Jese grabbed the winner on his debut.

Speaking after the game, Wenger also lamented poor officiating, which saw Alexandre Lacazette’s goal ruled out for offside.

He said: “We made stupid mistakes centrally and on top of that we were unlucky with some decisions from the referee.

“It’s a difficult defeat to swallow. We had chances – we should have won the game comfortably.

“We were unlucky. I think we scored a regular goal that was given offside and it wasn’t offside.

“It was frustrating getting caught cold for the goal. Defensively there is no excuse. We gave them a cheap goal.

“It was difficult to get the fluency. We tried but we couldn’t find the goal. There was lack of anticipation in the box with the second ball.

“To lose a game like that is disappointing You don’t want to lose games that you should win.”
