What Alex Iwobi said after Fulham beat Newcastle to go ahead of Manchester United on the EPL table

Fulham continued their impressive unbeaten streak in the Premier League, extending it to four games with a commanding 3-1 victory over Newcastle United at Craven Cottage on Saturday. A standout performance from Alex Iwobi, who provided a key assist, helped the Cottagers secure all three points and move up to eighth in the league standings.

Raúl Jiménez opened the scoring just four minutes into the game, chesting down the ball before turning and slotting it home with a well-placed right-footed strike. Fulham came close to doubling their lead when Emile Smith Rowe’s shot clipped the crossbar after a well-worked combination with Iwobi.

The pair, both graduates of Arsenal’s Hale End Academy, linked up again midway through the first half, and this time the move paid off. A quick one-two between Iwobi and Smith Rowe resulted in the latter making it 2-0, showcasing the strong partnership they’ve developed early in the season.

Newcastle tried to mount a comeback, with Harvey Barnes halving the deficit, but Fulham restored their two-goal cushion in stoppage time when Reiss Nelson, another player with Arsenal ties, found the back of the net, sealing the win.

Following the game, Alex Iwobi spoke to FFCtv about Fulham’s performance and their promising start to the season, which now sees them ahead of traditional top-six sides like Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in the standings. When asked to reflect on the season so far, Iwobi expressed his satisfaction with the team’s form, saying, “The performances have been very good. Of course, I’d say apart from the Ipswich game, we feel like we’ve performed very well. It’s just the results, which are the most important thing.”

Iwobi added that Saturday’s win was an example of both a strong performance and a positive result, which the team hopes to replicate going forward. “If we remain consistent, we’ll definitely finish better than we finished last season, and that’s what we’re aiming to do,” he said.

Iwobi has been a key player for Fulham this season, contributing two goal involvements and starting every Premier League game. His understanding with teammates like Smith Rowe is becoming a vital component of Marco Silva’s side as they aim to build on last season’s success.

With Fulham now sitting in eighth place, Iwobi’s optimism is shared by the team and fans alike, as they continue their strong start to the Premier League campaign.
