What Nigerian Basketballer Gabe Vincent said about his election as NBPA Vice President
D’Tigers of Nigeria and Los Angeles Lakers player Gabe Vincent has been elected Vice President of the NBPA’s executive committee, alongside New York Knicks star Karl-Anthony Towns. This honour was given to them during All-Star Weekend. For Vincent, this is a significant achievement, as it allows him to help players bring about meaningful changes in the future.
Being elected to a role within the NBPA is a major sign of respect in the NBA. Vincent now joins other key figures, such as Jaylen Brown, Towns, Garrett Temple, and C.J. McCollum, in the committee leadership. They work alongside executive director Andre Iguodala, who is well-liked by both fans and players.
After his election, Vincent shared his thoughts on what the position means to him and his plans for it.
“The PA is something I’ve been interested in for a while. I’ve attended as many meetings as I could, trying to learn more about our league,” Vincent said after practice on Wednesday. “I want to understand the impact players can have. When I had the chance to be part of the PA, I was honoured to be voted in and thankful for the opportunity. I hope we can make some positive changes.”
Vincent has recently become a key player for the Lakers, but even when he wasn’t playing well, his teammates and others around the league continued to respect him.
This respect is no surprise, given his efforts to understand the league and improve things for the players. With some of the comments made by players recently, such as regarding the Luka Doncic trade, it’s clear there are still areas that need improvement.
Vincent, along with the NBPA team, will hopefully be able to make these changes in the future.
On the court, Vincent has been playing his best basketball recently. One reason for this is that he didn’t lose confidence in his jumpshot when he was struggling earlier in the season.
“There’s a lot of noise around this game, around this organisation, around this league,” he said. “But I don’t think there’s anything I’ve done more in my life than shoot a basketball. That’s the last thing I’ll lose confidence in.”
