What Victor Osimhen said about his acrobatic goal for Galatasaray

Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has made a stunning impact at Galatasaray, scoring a sensational goal in their 3-0 win over Antalyaspor on Saturday, October 19, 2024.

Osimhen, who recently returned from injury, has now scored three goals goals in just five matches for the Turkish side since joining on loan from Napoli.

The Nigerian forward started the match on the bench and replaced Mauro Icardi, who had already scored twice to put Galatasaray in control. Despite playing only 13 minutes, Osimhen delivered a spectacular performance, netting a dream goal with a brilliant bicycle kick in added time.

Shortly after coming on, Osimhen had a goal ruled out for offside. However, he stayed focused and finally found the back of the net with the acrobatic strike, which is already being hailed as a potential goal of the season. The goal briefly went under VAR review, but it was confirmed, allowing the striker to celebrate his long-awaited moment.

Speaking in a video shared by Galatasaray on X (formerly Twitter), Osimhen reflected on the goal, saying, “I wanted to do it the first time, but a player got in front of me. If I had touched it, it would’ve been a free kick, so I left it. I’ve wanted to score this goal for a long time, and it came at the perfect time—it’s ballistic.”

Osimhen also recounted the tense moments before the VAR decision, joking about a conversation with his teammate APO. “He asked me, ‘What if it’s offside? What are you going to do to me?’ I told him, ‘Don’t worry, you’ll find out in the dressing room.’”

This performance not only marked Osimhen’s return to action but also cemented his importance to Galatasaray’s ambitions in both domestic and European competitions. Despite being sidelined before the international break, Osimhen has quickly regained form, much to the delight of fans and teammates alike.
