Who Are Nigeria Flying Eagles’ Group Stage Opponents at 2025 U20 AFCON?
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been drawn into Group B of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where they will face Tunisia, Kenya, and Morocco in what promises to be a tough group stage challenge.
The draw took place on Sunday at the Egyptian Football Association headquarters in Cairo, after a reshuffle became necessary following Ivory Coast’s withdrawal as tournament hosts on March 26. The Confederation of African Football (CAF) then awarded hosting rights to Egypt and cancelled the initial draw held on February 13.
As one of the top-seeded teams, Nigeria were automatically placed in Group B1. Defending champions Senegal and new hosts Egypt were placed in C1 and A1, respectively.
Group B is now made up of:
-
Nigeria – Seven-time champions and tournament favourites.
-
Tunisia – Known for their structured and defensive style.
-
Morocco – A technically gifted side with rising youth talent.
-
Kenya – Making a rare appearance and hoping to cause an upset.
This group is considered one of the most competitive, with Nigeria facing both experienced sides and emerging threats. Tunisia played in the previous edition and bring experience, Morocco are aiming to make a strong impression with their youth development progress, while Kenya, though less fancied, could spring a surprise.
The 2025 U20 AFCON will run from April 27 to May 18 in Egypt. The tournament features three groups: Group A has five teams, while Groups B and C have four teams each. The top two teams from each group, plus the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals.
For Nigeria’s Flying Eagles, attention now turns to final preparations in Abuja, where foreign-based players have joined the team for the last phase of training. The team is also chasing one of the four African spots at the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup, with this tournament acting as the official qualifier.
