Who is Super Eagles new-invitee Jordan Torunarigha

There are three new-invitees on the Super Eagles of Nigeria squad for the game against Sao Tome and Principe. One of them is Jordan Torunarigha.

Gift Orban and Victor Boniface are the other two and need no further introduction due to their goal-scoring exploit in Europe.

Birth and Parentage: Jordan was born on 7th August 1997. The 26-year old is the son of former Nigerian footballer Ojokojo Torunarigha.

He was born and bred in Germany.

When did he start playing football: Jordan started playing football in Chemnitz, Germany where he lived with his family.

As a kid, Jordan learnt the basics of football at Chemnitzer FC until 2006, when he joined Hertha BSC youth team as a nine-year old.

At Hertha BSC, Jordan developed through the academy and B team to the main team.

Which Position does he play: Jordan started playing football as a striker until Hertha BSC U-15 Coach Ante Covic converted him to defence, a position he has excelled in.

Which Clubs has he played for: The defender has only played for two clubs. Hertha BSC of Germany and current club Gent of Belgium.

When did he join Gent: The 26-year old new Super Eagles invitee first joined Gent in January 2022 on loan from Hertha BSC.

At the end of that season, Gent made the transfer permanent, the defender penning a three-year deal with the Belgian club.

His International Career: Jordan Torunarigha is a German by birth and Nigerian by Naturalization/parentage, so represented Germany at Youth level.

After years of dialogue, the defender switched international allegiance from Germany to Nigeria and has been invited for the AFCON qualifier vs Sao Tome and Principe on September 10 in Uyo.

This means, Jordan Torunarigha will commit his international future to his fatherland Nigeria if returning Super Eagles Head coach Jose Peseiro hands him his debut this weekend.

He will follow in the footstep of his father Ojokojo Torunarigha who represented Nigeria in the 90’s.

Jordan’s club teammate Gift Orban has also been selected for the first time same as Bayer Leverkusen in-form striker Victor Boniface.
