Why Bright Osayi-Samuel’s Move to Besiktas Collapsed
Nigeria international defender Bright Osayi-Samuel saw his expected move from Fenerbahçe to Turkish giants Beşiktaş fall through at the last minute, reportedly due to a disagreement over contract terms.
The 27-year-old, whose contract with Fenerbahçe has expired, had already agreed to a three-year deal with Beşiktaş and was due in Istanbul to complete the move. However, the deal was abruptly cancelled on Saturday after Beşiktaş President Serdal Adalı accused the player’s camp—specifically his father—of making last-minute demands.
**Contract Dispute Sparks Breakdown**
According to Turkish outlet Anadolu Agency (AA), Adalı said:
*“We have decided to stop the transfer due to the meaningless requests of Osayi-Samuel’s father that changed at the last minute. If he complies with the conditions we have previously discussed, he will come; otherwise, our alternatives are ready.”*
Sources close to the deal revealed that while both sides initially agreed to a three-year contract, Osayi-Samuel’s representatives later demanded a four-year agreement, which Beşiktaş rejected outright.
**Birmingham City Now Eyeing Deal**
Following the collapse of the move, English Championship side Birmingham City are now considering signing the Super Eagles right-back, who played 39 matches for Fenerbahçe last season, providing two assists.
With a current market value of €6.5 million, Osayi-Samuel has attracted interest from several clubs in Turkey and Europe. He previously featured for Blackpool and Queens Park Rangers (QPR) before joining Fenerbahçe in 2021. He has earned 23 caps for Nigeria.
His next destination remains uncertain, but Birmingham City could offer a fresh start in England following the failed transfer saga in Turkey.
