‘Why Cyriel Dessers deserves more Super Eagles playing time? Ideye shares insight

Former Super Eagles striker and 2013 AFCON winner, Brown Ideye, has praised Cyriel Dessers for his brilliant performance in Nigeria’s 2-1 win over Ghana in the Unity Cup semi-final.

Dessers, who was recently recalled to the national team after missing ten straight matches, scored the opening goal against Ghana at the Gtech Community Stadium in London. His performance impressed many Nigerian fans, and Ideye was one of the first to publicly applaud him.

Taking to his X (formerly Twitter) page, Ideye wrote:
“Amazing performance last night from Cyriel Dessers. Watching him play in his club, he deserves more playing time with the Super Eagles. What a player.”

Ideye, who lifted the AFCON trophy with Nigeria in 2013, clearly believes Dessers has earned a bigger role in the national team. Dessers has been in strong form for Rangers, where he scored 29 goals and provided seven assists in 55 matches across all competitions.

Even though Victor Osimhen remains Nigeria’s number one striker, many supporters are now calling for Dessers to be given more chances, especially after his performance against Ghana.

With Nigeria’s attack full of top talents like Terem Moffi, Ademola Lookman, Victor Boniface, and Kelechi Iheanacho, competition for places is fierce. But Ideye’s comments reflect growing support for Dessers to be a regular part of the squad.

The Super Eagles will now face Jamaica in the Unity Cup final on Saturday, 31st May, and fans will be watching closely to see if Dessers gets another chance to shine.
