Why I resigned as Ikorodu City Coach – Bright Ozebagbe speaks
Bright Ozebagbe, the former head coach of Ikorodu City Football Club, has opened up about his reasons for stepping down from his position.
According to Nsikakabasi Akpan, Ozebagbe revealed that a lack of appreciation for his work and concerns over his mental well-being led to his decision.
“I don’t feel happy doing my job, not being appreciated, and I just want to get my mental state away from the club and explore other possibilities,” he said.
Ikorodu City announced Ozebagbe’s resignation on their official X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, October 7, 2024. This comes just a day after the sacking of Lobi Stars’ head coach, making Ozebagbe the second manager to leave his post in the current Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) season.
The club confirmed that the coach handed in his resignation following a 1-0 defeat to Plateau United in Jos. Despite leading the Oga Boys to promotion last season, Ozebagbe struggled to secure a win in the NPFL this season, which may have contributed to his decision.
Ikorodu City is yet to announce a replacement for Ozebagbe, but they have assured fans that a new head coach will be appointed soon.
