Why Osimhen performs better with Napoli than with Super Eagles – Friday Ekpo

Nigeria Ex-international Friday Ekpo has picked reason compatriot Victor Osimhen performs better with Napoli than with the Super Eagles.

24-year old Victor Osimhen currently leads the goal-scorers chart in the Italian Serie A with 17 goals.

His performances this season has contributed significantly to Napoli’s Serie A table-topping run.

While featuring on a Brila Fm show on Tuesday, Ekpo a member of the Nigeria’s 1990 AFCON silver winning squad said it is not possible to have Osimhen play like he does for Napoli with the Super Eagles because the forward is best understood by his club teammates.

Ekpo said ” When the coach is assembling the team [Super Eagles] , they don’t spend an awful lot of time. So there should not be too much pressure in him to play for the Super Eagles as much as he does at Napoli.

“Osimhen is not a one man riot. At his club, they understand him because they play regularly. That’s a huge difference.

“The Super Eagles coach should put on his thinking cap and have many good options in the striker position,” the former Nigeria midfielder stressed.

Osimhen has scored 15 times in 22 Senior appearances for Nigeria and is tipped to have the potential to better Rashidi Yekini’s all-time highest goalscoring record for the Eagles.

Aside Osimhen, Nigeria is blessed with alternative striking options like Paul Onuachu and Terem Moffi who hold impressive goalscoring records at club level.
