Will Finidi George combine Super Eagles and Enyimba FC job: See answer

Last Monday, the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) officially announced the appointment of former Ajax winger Finidi George as the new coach of the Super Eagles.

This decision comes nearly two months after Jose Peseiro left the coaching position for the Super Eagles. Initially appointed as interim coach, Finidi George led the team during the last international break, overseeing matches against Ghana and Mali.

Despite reports of other big names like Emmanuel Amunike and Michael Nsien applying for the job, Finidi was ultimately chosen for the position.

However, concerns arise regarding the rushed nature of the decision. Typically, when coaches are appointed, details such as contract duration, salary, assistant coaches, and targets are outlined. In Finidi’s case, only the job description and targets were disclosed, suggesting a short-term arrangement. The duration of the contract and salary remain unspecified.

Furthermore, the NFF has yet to reveal Finidi’s assistants, a crucial aspect of any coaching setup. Ideally, assistant coaches should have been arranged before announcing the deal, whether chosen by the NFF or Finidi himself.

Finidi, 53, has served as Enyimba’s coach for the past three years while also holding the position of Super Eagles assistant coach in recent years. However, it remains unclear whether he will continue in his role with Enyimba now that he has been appointed as the permanent head coach of the national team.

According to sources outside the NFF per Soccernet, Finidi George is expected to step down from his Enyimba role, but official confirmation is pending as consultations are ongoing.

The NFF must address these issues promptly, especially with crucial World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin Republic on the horizon. Sorting out the coaching staff and contractual details is essential to ensure minimal distractions during these important matches.

As Nigerian football fans await further developments, they can only hope that the NFF resolves these issues swiftly and effectively.
