Will Samson Siasia accept the Super Eagles job if offered by the NFF?

Nigerian coach Samson Siasia has expressed his openness to negotiating with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) should they approach him for the Super Eagles head coach position.

Siasia, a prominent figure in Nigerian football, has a history with the national teams and could be a potential candidate as the Super Eagles seek a permanent head coach.

“I know the situation we’re in, but you just have to negotiate. I have to sit down and discuss with them. I just don’t want to jump in if they ask me to come in there because it’s a very difficult situation,” Siasia told Lagos Talks.

Siasia, who retired from active football in 2000, has had a notable coaching career with Nigerian teams. He began with the Flying Eagles, leading them from 2005 to 2007, and was later appointed as the under-23 team coach before taking on the Super Eagles role in 2010. However, his tenure with the senior team was cut short after failing to secure a spot in the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations. He was reappointed on an interim basis in 2016 but was dismissed within months.

The 57-year-old coach was banned by FIFA from all football-related activities due to corruption but has since returned to the sport. With the Super Eagles currently without a permanent head coach, Siasia has been mentioned as a possible candidate.

“Nigerians don’t want to hear anything other than a win. But if you don’t have a team and you don’t plan well, how can you win?” Siasia added. He emphasised the need for thorough discussions and a solid contract to avoid potential issues, indicating that he wants to ensure that any role he takes on is handled properly.

Augustine Eguavoen is currently serving as the interim coach of the Super Eagles. Eguavoen managed Nigeria’s recent games against Benin and Rwanda, achieving one win and one draw.
