Will Victor Boniface stay at Bayer Leverkusen? Ten Hag reportedly makes interesting decision

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag was named Bayer Leverkusen’s new head coach just over a month ago, and his arrival has raised questions about the future of Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface.

Boniface joined Leverkusen from Belgian club Union SG two years ago and quickly made a name for himself. In his first season, he scored 21 goals and provided 10 assists in 37 matches across all competitions. Last season, he had 11 goals and two assists in 27 appearances.

However, Boniface’s time at the German club has been affected by frequent injuries, which have given other strikers like Patrik Schick the chance to take his spot in the starting line-up. Towards the end of last season, Boniface was often left on the bench, sparking rumours that he could leave the club this summer.

Leverkusen have already seen several key players depart, and many expected Boniface to follow. But a new report from *Bundesliga Insider* says Ten Hag may have different plans.

According to the report, the Dutch coach is considering trying a two-striker system with Boniface and Schick. While Boniface prefers to drop deep and link up play, Schick is more of a typical poacher who waits in the box for chances. Ten Hag wants to test this new partnership in pre-season games to see if it works for the upcoming campaign.

Although there have been transfer rumours, nothing serious has developed yet. Boniface does not seem eager to leave, and with three years still left on his contract, he is likely to remain at Leverkusen for now.

Earlier in January, Saudi club Al Nassr tried to sign Boniface with a huge offer, but the deal didn’t go through. Since then, he hasn’t been linked to any other clubs.

As pre-season begins under Ten Hag, Boniface may have a new opportunity to prove himself and secure a key role in Leverkusen’s attack.
