Ibom Youths Fc defender Wisdom Ndon powered a header past Algon Boys Fc goalkeeper Eka Edet for the only goal of the Akwa Ibom state FA Cup clash between Ibom Youths Fc and Algon Boys Fc.
The match decided at the Training Pitch of the Godswill Akpabio international stadium Uyo had both teams creating and missing begging chances with eventual winners Ibom Youths Fc leading this odd stat.
It was early party for Ibom Youths Fc when Wisdom Ndon mixed power and skill in heading home what turned out to be the winning goal from a well weighted cross by teammate Victor Ifiok in the 12th minute.
The goal boosted the confidence of the Nigerian National League club as they entertained the spectators with crisp passing anchored by Midfield maestro Joseph Bassey whose combination with Ndifreke John carved open the ALGON Boys defence on four occasions for their forwards who were repeatedly denied by the ALGON Boys goalkeeper Eka Edet.
Algon Boys Fc put in a more improved performance in the second half. Strikers Sunday Okoronkwo and Uko Joseph were a torn In the flesh for the Ibom Youths Fc defenders as they pushed for an equalizer.
In the 84th minute, Algon Boys Fc had a glorious opportunity to level scores but Uko Joseph’s tame effort from six yards was pushed away by Ibom Youths Fc goalkepeeper Victor Obiowo to deny the joy of the Algon Boys Fc contingent who were off their seats with the hope of an equalizing goal in sight.
Having survived the scare, Ibom Youths Fc cautiously kept possession to see out a 1-0 win over Algon Boys Fc and progress to the next round of the 2022 Akwa Ibom state FA Cup.
The competition continues on Friday 3rd June 2022. Nigerian Nationwide League one clubs Sir Monty Fc and Fc Ona Pal will face-off by 4pm at the Training Pitch of the Godswill Akpabio International stadium Uyo.
