´I won´t let them pick my pocket´ – Foreman hits out at proposed Mayweather-McGregor bout

It is the fight that has everyone talking but do not expect former two-time boxing heavyweight champion George Foreman to tune in should Floyd Mayweather Jr and Conor McGregor step into the ring.

UFC champion McGregor is determined to move away from the octagon to face retired and undefeated boxer Mayweather in a cross-combat mega-fight.

Mayweather, who turns 40 in February and boasts a 49-0 record, wants to make the bout happen as both men haggle over negotiations.

But Hall of Famer and Olympic gold medallist Foreman is not interested in the proposed fight, likening it to a circus.

“I heard just recently they are closing the Ringling Brothers circus and the circus has to come from somewhere else,” Foreman told Omnisport.

“This would be a good piece of circus, a really good piece.

“They have talked about it long enough, it could happen.”

Foreman, 68, is particularly reluctant to buy into the fight following Mayweather’s uninspiring matchup with Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

It was billed as the fight of the century but Mayweather v Pacquiao did not deliver as many fans and pundits were left bored and wanting their money back.

Foreman will not allow Mayweather and Co. to pick-pocket him again, the American great more interested in seeing McGregor try his luck against another retired champion, Oscar de La Hoya.

“Who can tell them to stop picking people’s pockets unless they really get caught?,” Foreman continued.

“Mayweather and Pacquiao picked our pockets last time. I don’t think people will be quick to let them do it again.

So nobody to allow him to pick their pocket. I’m not going to do it.

“That McGregor guy, I would like to see him come out and maybe fight De la Hoya. I’d buy that.

“I’m not gonna let anyone pick my pocket twice.”
