World Cup 2018: Mikel Obi, Wilfred Ndidi don’t have three legs – Afeez Aremu

IK Start midfielder Afeez Aremu is convinced he has what it takes to make it to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, reports sportsration.com.

The former Akwa United midfielder who had a perfect start in Norway on Sunday scoring in his first league and home game for his new club IK Start is optimistic about making the cut to Russia 2018.

After his man of the match display for Ik Start in their 4-1 home win against Tromso at the Sparebanken Sør Arena in their first league game of the season, Afeez Aremu told sportlineng.com of his world cup hopes and how delighted he was to score on his first game of the season.

“I believe I can force my way into Gernot Rohr’s plan for the 2018 World Cup in Russia because people over there don’t have 3 legs.

“I believe in my ability and by the grace of God, my performances here in Norway will speak for me. I trained with the Super Eagles while they were preparing for the World Cup qualifier clash against Zambia in Uyo and with what I saw I can roll with them.

“I am available to represent my country anytime any day, it will be a great honour to be part of the squad but for now I want to focus on doing a great job here in Norway with IK Start.

“I am so happy to score my first goal in my first home and league game for my team, it was a great game for me and my teammates.

“I set the bar high for my self this season, the goal and beautiful display is just a tip of the iceberg, there is more to come because I strongly believe in abilities.

“I have the quality to be one of the best midfield in Norwegian this season and nothing is impossible in this life, with God by my side I will achieve great things this year.”

Afeez Aremu who joined the newly-promoted Norwegian side Ik Start on a three-year- deal from Ghanaian Club Inter Allies will have to battle the likes of Mikel John Obi (Tianjin Teda, China); Ogenyi Onazi (Trabzonspor FC, Turkey); Wilfred Ndidi (Leicester City, England); Oghenekaro Etebo (Las Palmas, Spain); John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheva, Israel); Uche Agbo (Standard Liege, Belgium); and Joel Obi (Torino FC, Italy) for a place in the squad.
