World Twenty20: Zimbabwe beat Scotland to stay on course

Sean Williams and Wellington Masakadza inspired Zimbabwe to an 11-run victory which kept them on course for the World Twenty20 Super 10 stage and knocked Scotland out of the tournament.

Zimbabwe were not convincing in a Group B victory over Hong Kong on Tuesday and there was room for improvement in their showing against the Scots, but they were still able to make it two wins out of two.

Williams (53) made his third T20 international half-century as Hamilton Masakadza’s side posted 147-7 in Nagpur on Thursday.

Wellington Masakadza claimed his best T20 international figures of 4-28 as Scotland, beaten by Afghanistan in their first game of the tournament, were all out for 136 in the last over after Richie Berrington (36), captain Preston Mommsen (31) and Josh Davey (24) had given them hope.

Skipper Hamilton Masakadza (12) was run out following a collision with Vusi Sibanda which resulted in his opening partner needing treatment on the field.

Sibanda (4) was out in the following over, then Michael Leask plucked a stunning one-handed catch at long-off to send Richmond Mutumbami on his way before Williams led the recovery with six boundaries.

Wellington Masakadza and Tendai Chatara took two wickets apiece inside four overs to leave Scotland reeling on 20-4 and although Berrington, Mommsen and Davey made a game of it they were unable to claim a shock win.
