Nigeria’s representative at the 2019 CAF Champions League, Lobi Stars will have their goalie, Olufemi Thomas to praise for his efforts in their away draw against Wydad Casablanca.
Lobi Stars forced Wydad to a goalless draw at the Stade Mohamed V (Casablanca) in their CAF Champions League matchday 4 clash to restore their hopes of making the last 8.
Lobi Stars who lost by a lone goal to Wydad in the first leg played in Nigeria needed to avoid defeat to give themselves the hopes of making it to the knockout stages and they did just that.
Wydad dominated possession while Lobi Stars who were out to possibly avoid a repeat of 5-2 smashing handed to Asec Mimosa when they visited the Stade Mohamed Stadium contained their hosts.
Although the general play wasn’t the best from Lobi Stars, they did well enough to secure a vital point which could be useful in their quest for a quarterfinal place.
Lobi Stars will have their goalkeeper Olufemi Kayode to praise for his heroics. Just as he did in the first leg and so far in the competition he made crucial saves to deny the hosts a goal on numerous occasions.
In the other game, Mamelodi Sundowns forced Asec Mimosa to a goalless draw in Abidjan.
The result put Lobi Stars with 4 points, -1 goal difference in 3rd place ahead of Asec Mimosa who has same points but -4 goal difference.
Wydad and Mamelodi Sundowns both occupy the first-two positions with 7 points each.
Lobi Stars still have the chances of making it to next round if they take care of business on their end and the results in the other games favour them.
Lobi Stars travel to South Africa to tackle Mamelodi Sundowns on 9th of March while they will entertain Asec Mimosa in Nigeria in the last game of the group scheduled for 16th of March.
