Xabi Alonso advises Victor Boniface to Improve and reach Drogba’s level

Bayer Leverkusen manager Xabi Alonso has advised Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface on areas where he can improve his game. Alonso even told Boniface that he has the potential to become as great as Chelsea legend Didier Drogba.

Boniface played a key role in Leverkusen’s Bundesliga-winning team last season, finishing as the league’s top scorer. He has continued his impressive form this season, recently scoring in a crucial Champions League match against AC Milan.

The 22-year-old striker previously mentioned that Alonso encouraged him to learn from Drogba. Alonso has now confirmed this, praising Boniface’s strengths but also pointing out areas where he can get better.

Alonso highlighted Boniface’s ability to trouble defenders and his skill in tight spaces around the penalty area. However, the coach believes the striker needs to be more aggressive in attacking the box when chances come.

“He has many qualities that could make him as formidable as Drogba,” Alonso said. “His strength and the problems he causes for defenders are impressive, but he needs to be more assertive in front of goal.”

Alonso added that with proper guidance and support, Boniface can improve his decision-making in key moments.
