Xabi Alonso Says There’s No Problem with Vinicius Junior After Recent Substitutions

Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso has played down rumours of a problem between him and forward Vinicius Junior, despite the Brazilian being substituted in every match this season.
Vinicius, 23, has been one of Madrid’s key attackers in La Liga, scoring two goals and providing two assists in five matches. However, he hasn’t played a full 90 minutes in any of Madrid’s 12 games so far this season.
Reports also suggest Vinicius has recently rejected a new contract offer, adding fuel to rumours about his future at the Bernabéu.
Alonso Clears the Air
Speaking at a press conference, Alonso insisted there is no issue and explained that managing playing time is part of modern football.
“I’ve been a player too. Being subbed off is never the best feeling, but I take it naturally,” he said.
“I speak with the players, and I like being close to them. I don’t make a big deal out of it.”
Alonso stressed that the focus is on the team’s success, not just one player.
“After the game, everyone was happy with the win and keen to keep improving. That’s what matters – having team spirit.”
He also praised Vinicius and said the season is still just beginning.
“I’m happy with Vinicius. He’s doing well and just needs to keep feeling comfortable. There’s a long way to go.”
Alonso Sends Message to Squad
Alonso also made it clear that no player is guaranteed a place, saying:
“At Real Madrid, the players who deserve to play will play.”
