Xavi: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Sadio Mane not Barcelona standard

Xavi Hernandez has warned Barcelona against signing any of Arsenal’s striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang or Liverpool forward, Saido Mane.

Barcelona have been in the market for a replacement for ageing striker Luiz Suarez and the club have been linked to several names including the tow African super stars.

Xavi Hernandez who rose through the ranks with Barcelona and won everything with the club believes both players are good goal scorers and could find space but not the type of quality needed at the Camp Nou.

Xavi, who won three Champions League titles during his trophy-laden playing career at Barcelona, believes both players would struggle to adapt to they style of Quique Seitin’s side.

He said: ‘Mane and Aubameyang can kill you in open space. But Barcelona need players who know how to move in small spaces.

‘I am thinking about player who would adapt to Barcelona and it’s not easy to find one. Samuel Eto’o was perfect as is Luis Suarez right now.’

Xavi, however, wouldn’t mind the return of PSG superstar Neymar Jr. whom he shared dressing room during his active days.

He added: ‘Football-wise, he is among the three or five best in the world. I hope that he returns to Barcelona. He was his teammate. He would add a lot. ‘A positive character. It would be an extraordinary signing to become a difference-maker.’
