‘You can create more history’ – Victor Moses sends message to Super Eagles ahead of AFCON opener

2013 AFCON winner, Victor Moses has sent message to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, urging them to create more history at the 2023 Nations Cup in Cote d’Ivoire.

The Russia based winger has expressed confidence in the Nigerian national team’s ability to perform well at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) .

Moses, who played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s triumph in the 2013 AFCON, is optimistic about the current squad’s chances at the 34th edition.

In 2013, Moses showcased exceptional skills and played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles secure their third AFCON title in South Africa.

Now, as Nigeria aims for a fourth crown, Moses believes that Coach Jose Peseiro has a formidable squad at his disposal.

The team boasts exceptional talents such as Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, Terem Moffi, and other stars who are in top form.

As the Super Eagles prepare for their opening game on Sunday, January 14, 2023 Moses took to X handle to convey his well-wishes to the team.

“Good luck to the guys for the AFCON! I have amazing memories from previous tournaments, and I know you can create more history this year. We are all behind you.” Moses wrote on X.

Nigeria’s AFCON 2023 campaign kicks off against Equatorial Guinea on Sunday, followed by a highly anticipated clash against Cote d’Ivoire. The Super Eagles will then face Guinea-Bissau on January 22, 2024 to the end the group stage.

The 33-year-old who had 37 appearances for Nigeria, announced his retirement from international football in 2018.

“I would like to announce that after much thought I have made the decision to retire from playing international football,” Moses had wrote on Instagram.

“I have experienced some of the best moments of my life wearing the Super Eagles shirt and have memories with me that will last a lifetime. Nothing will ever compete to what it felt like to represent Nigeria on behalf of our country.

“However, I feel that now is the right time to step away in order to be able to focus fully on club career and my young family as well as to allow the next generation of Super Eagles stars the opportunity to step up and to flourish. We are blessed as a nation to have so many exciting young players coming through and now is their time.”
