Zaidu Sanusi doubtful as Porto face Sporting, while Terem Moffi battles for form and fitness

Super Eagles defender Zaidu Sanusi is a major doubt for FC Porto ahead of their crucial Portuguese Cup clash against Sporting CP on Wednesday, April 22.
Sanusi has been one of Porto’s most reliable players this season. After struggling for regular game time last year, the left-back has grown into a key figure under coach Francesco Farioli. He has made 25 appearances in all competitions, scoring once and providing two assists.
The Nigerian defender impressed again last weekend in Porto’s 2-0 win over Tondela. However, his performance was cut short when he picked up an injury and was forced off in the 63rd minute.
Reports indicate that Sanusi is dealing with a sprained right ankle, which could rule him out of the semifinal at the Estádio do Dragão. His absence would be a big setback for Porto, especially as they need to overturn a 1-0 first-leg deficit against their fierce rivals.
Matches between Porto and Sporting are always intense, and this one carries even more importance as both sides are also battling for the league title. Porto currently lead the standings, while Sporting remain in close pursuit with a game in hand.
While Sanusi faces uncertainty in Portugal, another Super Eagles star, Terem Moffi, is also dealing with challenges in France.
The forward has endured a difficult period with OGC Nice, largely due to fitness concerns and inconsistent form. After enjoying an impressive run last season, Moffi has struggled to maintain the same level, with injuries affecting his rhythm and impact in front of goal.
Nice are pushing for a strong finish in the Ligue 1, and Moffi’s return to full fitness could be vital to their ambitions. The Nigerian striker remains an important part of the squad, but he will need to rediscover his sharpness quickly.
Back in Portugal, Sanusi’s situation also raises questions about his future. With just one year left on his contract, the 28-year-old is approaching a key stage in his career. Although Porto value his contributions, there is no confirmed update on a contract extension.
If no agreement is reached soon, Sanusi could attract interest from other clubs, especially after his consistent performances this season.
For now, both Sanusi and Moffi face crucial weeks ahead, with fitness and form likely to determine their impact for club and country.
