World #2 Murray eyes Wimbledon glory after historic Queen´s triumph

Andy Murray turned his attention to dethroning Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon after claiming a record fifth title at Queen’s on Sunday.

The world number two battled back from a set and a break down to beat Milos Raonic 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 6-3 in London, adding to the titles he won in 2009, 2011, 2013 and 2015.

Murray has lost to the irrepressible Djokovic in the final at the Australian Open and the French Open this year and the Brit is hoping to crack open the huge bottle of champagne he won at Queen’s after claiming a second title at SW19 next month.

Asked what he would do with the bubbly, a usually teetotal Murray said: “I’ll take it home, I guess, and hopefully maybe have something to celebrate in a few weeks – keep it for after Wimbledon.”

Murray knows he must maintain the momentum gained from his latest triumph as he eyes more capital gains in his home major.

He added: “It’s obviously good preparation to win the event right beforehand, but I still have eight days until my first match at Wimbledon, so there’s time to make things better and there’s also time to mess things up.

“If I have five rubbish days of practice and don’t put everything into it and concentrate on what I’m trying to do and get better, then I can go into Wimbledon feeling rubbish.

“It’s been great, but I’m aware that I need to stay on it these next seven days. If I do that, then I’ll put myself in a good position.”
