2023 Australian Open Day Four: Murray delivers sensational performance as Ruud, Zverev, Jabeur crash out

Former world number one Andy Murray came through a gruelling five-set match against Thanasi Kokkinakis to qualify for the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. The veteran Brit had taken Matteo Berrettini in five sets in their first round encounter only days back before defeating Kokkinakis in the longest game of his career. Murray went down two sets before recovering to win after five hours and 45 minutes. The match ended 4-6 6-7(4) 7-6(5) 6-3 7-5, with Murray booking his third round spot.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Novak Djokovic eased past unseeded Frenchman Enzo Couacaud in four sets to qualify for the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. The fourth seed claimed a 6-1 6-7 6-2 6-0 win to progress, continuing his quest for a tenth crown in Melbourne.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Second seed Casper Ruud was stunned by Jenson Brooksby and saw his time in Melbourne come to an abrupt end. Brooksby won their second round clash 6-3 7-5 6-7 6-2 to eliminate the US Open runner-up and progress to the third round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Alexei Popyrin stunned eighth seed Taylor Fritz, claiming a win in five sets to progress to the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. The home favourite won 6-7 7-6 6-4 6-7 6-2 against Fritz to ensure Australian presence in the third round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Unseede qualifier Michael Mmoh stunned German 12th seed Alexander Zverev to qualify for the third round of the tournament. The American claimed a 6-7 6-4 6-3 6-2 win over Zverev in their clash.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

JJ Wolf stunned 23rd seed Diego Schwartzmann in straight sets to qualify for the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. Wolf claimed a 6-1 6-4 6-4 win to progress.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

In the women’s draw, World number two Ons Jabeur suffered a shock defeat to Marketa Vondrousova in three sets at the Rod Laver Arena. The Tunisian lost the match 1-6 7-5 1-6 to exit the tournament at the second round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fourth seed Caroline Garcia claimed a straight sets win over Canada’s Leylah Fernandez to qualify for the third round of the tournament in Melbourne. Garcia claimed a 7-6 7-5 win in the match.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Belinda Bencic defeated Claire Liu in straight sets to book her place in the third round of the 2023 Australian Open. The 12th seed claimed a 7-6 6-3 win in the match.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Anett Kontaveit was stunned by Poland’s Magda Linette in three sets as she exited the 2023 Australian Open in the second round. Linette won their match 3-6 6-3 6-4 to progress to the third round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Ninth seed Veronica Kudermetova suffered a shock defeat to Katie Volynets in their second round meeting in Melbourne. Volynets won the match 6-4 2-6 6-2 to progress.
