Ghana Masters beat Nigeria Hockey Masters 4-1 in Lagos

The Ghana masters gave Nigeria masters a valuable lesson at the Legacy pitch National Stadium, Surulere, Lagos, on on Saturday.

Nigeria masters who are without few of their key players, lost 4-1 to the Ghana masters in what served as the return match of the match played in Ghana some weeks back.

Nigeria who lost the first leg 4-3 in Ghana drew the first blood through Walter. Mabudi stopped a well ejected ball by Jaye and Walter dragged flicked the ball to the top corner beyond the onrushing goalkeeper.

The Ghana masters responded almost immediately through their danger man James Dadson Mason, he walked the ball into the 22m untouched and made no mistake from the striking circle to bring the match into level terms.

Alex Ebo Arthur put the Ghana masters in front with a good strike, and when Nigeria masters seemed to be getting back into the tie the Ghana masters increased their lead through Stephen Tenkerang. His goal was a well worked out penalty corner which was returned to Stephen the ejector close to the goalkeeper’s pad and with a flying tap he made it 3.

James Dadson Mason, who was the turn in the flesh of the Nigeria masters in Ghana scored another goal to make it two on the night and the Ghana’s 4th. Dadson practically deleted all the players in Nigeria masters midfield and defence with his ball walk and control before putting the ball beyond Nigeria goalkeeper Charles who was left defenseless.

Both masters had a black armband on in honour of COL. Nadeem Ahmed Bhattic the FIH official who died while in active duties in Nigeria, a minute silence was also observed in honour of late Nadeem before the kick off.
