Red-hot Victor Anichebe deserves a Super Eagles recall

Watching Victor Anichebe play has been a great scene to behold since rejoining his former boss David Moyes at Sunderland. The 28-year-old Nigerian has been in great form scoring 3 goals in his last 2 games for Sunderland in the Premier League.

The 2008 Olympic silver medalist put up man of the match performances in his last two games for the Black Cats, scoring the equalizer and setting up the winning goal through penalty which was converted by Defoe against Bournemouth in their game before the International break.

This weekend he again shone as Moyes’ side won back to back for the first time in a long while, Anichebe was simply unplayable, his work rate, link up play helped a great deal.

Although, in October 2012, Anichebe announced he was focusing on his form for his former clubside Everton, rather than on earning a return to the Nigerian team, and in May 2013, Anichebe temporarily retired from international football to concentrate on his club career.

However, he stated that he will return to international football in the future. The future is now, no player wouldn’t want to be part of Rohr’s Super Eagles, Anichebe will be a good addition to the Super Eagles and would be a good alternative to Manchester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.

There is no Nigerian striker plying their trade in any of Europe top five leagues that is on the same form as Victor Anichebe, he deserves a chance to play for the Super Eagles again and Rohr needs to consider him.
