Atletico Madrid chief Miguel Marin explains why he wants Real Madrid to sign De Gea ahead of Courtois

Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin has explained why he would be happy if Real Madrid sign Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea ahead of Chelsea’s Thibaut Cortois despite both goalkeepers being former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.

Marin revealed there is an agreement that saw De Gea move to Old Trafford saw a sell-on clause inserted into his contract, which would mean Atletico get a cut of any future fee.

Both De Gea and fellow former Atletico goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois have been linked with their city rivals in recent months as Real look to add a new stopper in the summer.

And Marin wouldn’t begrudge either of them a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, despite playing for the red and white half of Madrid.

‘I would not feel bad if Madrid signed him [De Gea], Marin told Onda Cero.

‘I would prefer Real to sign De Gea because we own five per cent of the [sell-on fee].

‘Courtois is a great professional and a great guy and I wish him well but I think he should stay at Chelsea.

‘It would not be a betrayal [to Atletico], I do not think the fans would feel that way.’
